A Master, I have a question. As stay-at-home disciples, is there ever a chance for us to get to the point to live in Emptiness? I'd rather you don't live in Emptiness because you're at home. I like you to visit Emptiness and come home. I like you to go on a journey, travel to Emptiness, and come back home to your family because Emptiness isn't meant for you to stay there forever. So chan is like a a journey for you. You spend some time sitting there bowing, reciting sutras, reading sutras and so forth. It's all part of chan. By the way, chan is a ch we're teaching you is not simply sitting crossing your legs.
It's as long as you give it a try and you try your best. There's so many things you can do to to train yourself. So it's not only about sitting, it could be bowing, could be kneeling, could be walking, meditation, could could be listening to dharma instructions and so forth. Okay, this that's the nature of the ch training. Okay, we're not stuck on any form. And so don't think of it as as a permanent thing and you the Emptiness there is something that you discovering or you will experience when you cross your leg every day naturally and even with for left home people in our training program we it's more a lot more intensive than yours or lay people but it's still the same thing we want them to to discover Emptiness happiness, entertain further training.
As I put it yesterday my Chinese Master teaches us, my generation, to discover True Emptiness. I'm also taking it a step further. I'm helping you discover wonderful existence. This True Emptiness is useless by itself. And so so that's why naturally you will discover Emptiness and then you will come back and benefit the people that you love. That's what it's about. That's the spirit of American Chan. Yes, we prove ourselves. That's our relentless goal is keep on improving improving ourselves. It's not just for the elite. It's for everyone. I'm very proud of the fact that all of you who many of you are able to come more often.
Some of you only are able to come once once a week on the weekend and Maybe attend the Pure Land dharma assembly for a couple of hours. No meditation whatsoever. And after all this time here, all these people, that's what they did. They've been doing this for years and they've been improving. And they said they're the one who told me China is not for me. I'm a Pure Land person and they didn't realize that they improved as well. Pando Chan our ch is that is that versatile. We're not stuck on any format. So it's about you bit by bit, day by day weekend by weekend.
You keep it up. Wonderful things happen to you. The Chinese has a saying, you draw near red, you become red. You draw near peace, you become peace yourself. So that's why you experience peace when you meditate. You stand up engaged with your wife, engage with your friends, engage with your children, you embrace them. That's why I learned a long long time ago a bodhic sappa came to me and said, "You know what my Ayana is?" I said, "No, it's all embracing, boy." I didn't understand it. Can you embrace them? Can you embrace people as who they are instead of judging them instead of imposing your will on them?
Can you embrace them? That's true strength. Can you accept them? Don't judge your husband. Accept them. That's a manifestation of peace. Don't demand. embrace them. So this chant here, we're talking about humility, aren't we? Every day we sit and we have a a time limit and we run into issues that we can't we can't overcome and that's reminds us that we're not perfect. We have a lot of issues, have a lot of problems and fall short of our own expectations. Okay? And we face it every day ourselves through our time practice. We hear these good things that all these people others can do and and that's good for us, but we can't bring ourselves to do it.
We fall short like it or not. And that constant being constantly faced with our limitation, our failures and yet we don't give up. That's a training of patience. [bell] To a
