You naturally let them go. Ordinary people learn to analyze and look outward, but they never learn to look inward. Keep looking inside. If you examine yourself and discover parts that are bad or even evil, then try to let them go. Don’t act on them—they will eventually fade away. The reason you continue to be greedy, angry, and deluded is that when you notice these tendencies, you act on them. If you keep observing yourself, you will naturally see your own flaws. When you see yourself clearly and judge yourself honestly, you recognize what you truly are. Since you disapprove of those qualities in others, you will naturally begin to dislike them in yourself—and you will gradually let them go. That is the process. If you are willing to face yourself, you will be able to shed these tendencies. Stop looking outside. Look inside. Stop blaming your mother—blame yourself. Stop blaming others—blame yourself. Whatever you blame others for, if you look closely, you will see that you should be blaming yourself for the same thing. That is cultivation.
