**What we need to realize is the importance of the spiritual life, and its foundation is selflessness.** The first thing you need to learn is how to be less selfish. Look at worldly people. Do they necessarily become happier by making more money or becoming more famous? You need to become less selfish. You need to help others instead of seeking benefits only for yourself. Of course, I know you're still selfish. You can't fool me. But that's why you're undergoing training: to learn the methods and develop the skills needed to truly help others.
The process is like this: You help someone, and you make sacrifices. You take a loss. Then you take another loss. Don't come to me asking, "Master, how much more do I have to lose?" If you keep doing this, eventually you'll discover how wonderful life truly is. Only then will you understand what True Happiness really is.
True Happiness means being happy 24 hours a day. You don't need to drink something or smoke something to feel happy. You're simply happy. You're happy when it rains, and you're happy when the sun shines. You're happy when your father yells at you, and you're happy even when your wife says, "I want a divorce."
