**Question**: Why do we tell you to bring forth the Bodhi Mind, even though we know that you don’t really understand what it means? There are two reasons.
First, if you set your goal too low, your results will also be low. We want you to set a high goal worthy of you. So aim high. Don’t settle for something small.
Second, something magical happens. When you bring forth the Bodhi Mind, the many Buddhas and Bodhisattvas we invite during the ceremonies see you and think: “Oh, this person wants to do something great. This person isn’t settling for something small. They’re thinking big.”
Then they remember you and decide to help you. They continue helping you until you reach your goal. That’s what they do.
Some people want to become engineers. Some want to become emperors, teachers, monks, or doctors. They help them become engineers, emperors, monks, doctors, and so forth.
But some of us say: “I want to become a Buddha.” Then they help you become a Buddha.
That’s why we teach you to bring forth the Bodhi Mind. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose. When you bring forth the Bodhi Mind, the Buddhas will help you until you become a Buddha. That’s why we do it.
And when the Buddhas help us, we don’t know it. They help us quietly, invisibly.
