If your practice is based on getting what you want at the expense of everything else, then you are simply inflating your ego. You are not helping yourself at all. When you analyze and devise your own scheme based on your thinking, that is the ego at work. As long as you are thinking and analyzing, that is your ego in action. The ego looks at everything and decides what is good or bad for you. It will never willingly relinquish control. A manifestation of the ego is constant thinking. You cannot stop thinking. And until you are able to stop thinking, you cannot truly develop great wisdom.
