**Question**: Today, while doing the Emperor Liang Repentance, things I felt I needed to repent of kept coming to mind. Since you told us to focus on the present moment, I didn’t dwell on them and simply continued following the ceremony. But some of them kept coming back even after the ceremony. Should I look into them more closely and repent of them, or just continue following the ceremony?
The process is very simple. Just follow the assembly. When they chant, you chant. When they kneel, you kneel. When they bow, you bow. Focus on what you’re doing and don’t think too much.
Doing this helps you enter samadhi. As your mind becomes clearer through Samadhi, insights naturally arise. You may suddenly realize, “This is something I need to repent of and resolve.” You’re not deliberately thinking it up; it arises naturally from the clarity of your mind. It may also be a Bodhisattva reminding you of something you need to address.
If the same issue keeps coming up, simply recognize that it may be an obstruction to your cultivation that needs to be resolved. You can use the blessings generated through the Dharma assembly to repent of and address it. Once it is properly resolved, it will naturally stop coming up.
So the instruction is simple: just follow the ceremony without thinking too much. When insights naturally arise, recognize what needs to be addressed and resolved.
