**You may have perfectly valid reasons for disliking someone. But the first thing you need to understand is that by getting angry and hating that person, you are hurting yourself.**
**If you TRULY believed this, you would be able to stop your anger immediately.** The problem is that you don’t really believe it, and that’s why you continue to be angry at that person.
When you find yourself getting angry, tell yourself: “This anger is hurting me. It’s not helping me at all. I need to stop it.” That’s the principle.
But there are also skills involved. There are many techniques you can use to calm down and reduce your anger. One of the most basic is learning to meditate.
When you’re angry, meditate. Meditation can help you calm your anger more quickly. Once you develop your cultivation skills, you’ll be able to bring your anger under control much faster.
But don’t misunderstand me. This is a skill. Developing that skill takes time and effort. At first, it may take you a long time to calm your anger through meditation. But as your cultivation skills improve, you’ll be able to bring your anger under control more and more quickly.
