We need to make ourselves worthy of rebirth there. One of the ways the Buddha taught us to do this is by planting Pure Land blessings. You need an incredible amount of blessings to make it to the Pure Land. It is similar to wanting to live in an extremely expensive neighborhood with multimillion-dollar homes. If you do not have enough money, you simply cannot live there. Likewise, to be reborn in the Western Bliss Pure Land, you need an immense amount of blessings. Since the very beginning, I have told people to think about the cost of traveling. Today, sending people into the stratosphere and bringing them back costs hundreds of millions of dollars, and that distance is nowhere near the distance to the Western Bliss Pure Land, which is said to be ten billion Buddha lands away. Imagine that we had the technology to travel from here to Amitabha Buddha's land. How much would the ticket cost? It would be unimaginably expensive. This serves as a reminder that the Pure Land cannot be reached with money alone. It requires blessings. Therefore, it is extremely important for Pure Land practitioners to remember that they need an extraordinary amount of blessings. One of the ways we generate these blessings is by reciting the Buddha's name. Reciting Amitabha Buddha's name creates tremendous blessings and also eradicates countless obstructions to rebirth in the Pure Land.
