In Buddhism, we have something called the five precepts, which is the foundation of right and wrong, of good and evil.
You follow the rules of those five precepts, you are doing good.
You are goodness.
You violate them, you are doing evil.
So, everything we do actually are covered.
All our actions, all our karmas are covered by these five precepts.
Let me explain to you how it works.
The most important thing for you is to watch the intention.
You made a vow not to kill.
The most important thing about not killing is to not allow your mind to indulge in the killing thought.
You vow not to steal.
The most important thing you need to watch out for is not have no thoughts of stealing, no intention of stealing.
But, if you engage in we do that, you commit a karma with the intention to do that, that's a lot more serious.
And that's what Chan is about.
Chan is about we catch those thoughts, those improper thoughts, and we raise our guards.
I say, "I—I'm not going there." Ordinary people, they indulge in these thoughts.
