It's because you are unenlightened—that's why you're subject to birth and death. You do things that will make you get caught in a wheel of reincarnation because of your lack of wisdom. When... after you become enlightened, that's when you have enough wisdom to be able to get out of reincarnation. That's the only way to end birth and death. Until another... another expedient that... that's available to us... is that because in the era of the Dharma-Ending Age... it's very difficult for us to put an end to birth and death. And therefore, the Buddhas know that, and so they have this expedient called Pure Land, where you can go to the Pure Land even though you are not enlightened yet. If you go to the Pure Land, you put an end to birth and death.
