In all meditation practices, this is what it is about: you place the mind in one place. If you somehow manage to control your mind and do not let it move from one place, there is nothing you cannot do.
Chan training is to help you develop the skills to place your mind in one place. What does "placing your mind in one place" mean?
You sit, you meditate, and you look at the problem you are trying to solve. Keep looking. Don't think; don't analyze. Just look. If you start thinking, drop the thoughts. Look, look, look. That is all. Keep your mind there on that one problem. Do not try to argue, do not try to reason, and do not try to analyze. Just look at it. With your eyes closed, use your mind to think of that one problem you have.
If you do that long enough, naturally, something will "click." Your wisdom mind, which is different from your thinking mind, kicks in unpredictably. That is when you are able to see the solution that your thinking mind cannot. Look, look, and look. Don't think. You May be amazed at how creative you can be and how you can naturally think outside the box.
