I suggest that you try your best. Set a goal and a time limit for yourself, and progress in increments. I prefer setting goals for specific periods only. The instruction is to keep trying more and more; do not feel like a failure, and do not give up. It is crucial to keep this in mind when you cultivate.
[[ordinary people|Ordinary people]] give up because they are unwilling to try hard. We, however, must be willing to do what others typically avoid. Cultivation is not about exhausting yourself or doing the impossible; it is about being willing to do more than you did last time. If you can do that, you will make progress. To do more than you are currently willing to do—that is cultivation. When you come to the temple, endure and sacrifice more than before. Ordinary people won't do this unless there is a reward. We do it because that is how we cultivate. No rewards, no progress and no enlightenment.
