The moment things are no longer the way you want them to be, what do we do? We say, “I’m out of here.” This is so typical of modern-day people: “It’s not the way I wanted, so I’m leaving.”
But if you are able to resist the urge to run away—if you can tough it out and remain faithful to your original plan—then you give yourself a real chance to open your wisdom. No one is going to help you if you keep running away. You go to the next place, and then you run away again, and again, and again. You just keep running.
So how about making a change? For a change, stop running away. The very first lesson you learn in cultivation is this: no matter how difficult it is, do not run away. Stick to your commitment. Do not listen to that urge to run away—whether it is because of this person or that person, because of the Master, because of this or that situation, because it hurts, because it stings, or because something new comes up. Otherwise, you will simply keep running away from one thing to another.
