The fourth parameter is the vigor parameter. The vigor parameter is by definition. This is the Mayana teaching. You more vigorous when for the good you able to produce you produce more. You vigorously produce more. For the good you are not yet producing, vigorously start producing. For the bad that you are bad karmas you're creating, you vigorous vigorously work to eliminate them. And for that and for the bad karmas you haven't created, you vigorously work to stop yourself from creating them. That's the classic definition of vigor. is based on vigorously doing good and v vigorously stopping the bad karmas. It's that simple. It boils down to be aware of good and bad.
That's why it goes back to number two, morality. You you practice morality. You know, deep in your heart, you know what's right and wrong, good and bad, okay? And that's why you need to refrain yourself, okay, from doing bad and and doing only good. To be vigorous is very important. You want to be vigorous in doing the right things and stopping the wrong things. That's why you want to be vigorous. Don't be vigorous by doing going after the bad things. Okay? That's the wrong kind of vigor. If you practice the right kind of vigor then it boils down to not resting and that's why we have a chanti where in this environment okay you only get to do the good things create the good karmas we're not talking about success are we vigor doesn't mean does it say in the definition of vigor that you must be successful it's about trying your best and keep on trying your best and keep on trying your best.
That's what it it's about. It's not about being successful in your endeavor. You keep on trying and trying and trying. One day you break through. Only wimps want to be successful. We are tough. We don't need to be successful. We keep on trying and try and trying. We don't give up. We don't quit. We don't rest. And we don't quit. That's vigor. We relentless. It's a lot more, but I don't have time to go into it. It just takes too long to explain to you. It's kind of fun to me. These concepts are fundamental and they're very profound. You can, you know, I give an example a for a bodhic sattva.
You know bodhic sabas they realized these parameters they perfected these parameters and you know what and they still spend lifetimes practicing one parameter just one they spend lifetimes for example have you heard quoting the scriptures heard of the patient immortal in a prior life of shakim a Buddha 500 lifetimes he's been practicing until he met with the king, the Kalinga king. 500 lifetimes. That's that's how that's how it's iterative iterative process. You keep on honing it and perfecting it, perfecting it. That's how cool about this this precept parameter. You keep on getting better and better and better. It's not the way that the Chinese say, you know, be prepared to die to keep your pre substance to Chinese.
